Installing a radiant barrier is usually done in one of two methods: stapling it to the bottom of the roof rafters or laying the foil over your existing attic insulation on the attic floor. However, there are certain times where other installation methods can apply. For example, when you are installing radiant barrier under a new roof or when you have a cathedral ceiling (exposed rafters in a living space), the traditional installation methods do not apply. |

The Cathedral Ceiling Installation Method |

| This application is unique in that the air space needs to be created within the assembly (versus it occurring naturally) for the foil to work properly. The main thing to decide before you begin this installation is whether or not you plan to add insulation to the assembly. After that, you should consider your goal with adding the radiant barrier: is it to keep the heat inside the home from escaping, or is it to keep the heat outside the home from entering? | |||||
