You can see the gap left along the bottom of the install - this allows air from the soffits to enter the main attic space.

In a flat top install you should ALWAYS cut holes in the ceiling part to allow airflow to pass through. This is a photo before the ceiling holes were cut.

Here is an example of what the holes in the ceiling of a flat top method should look like. They don't have to be perfect circles, just any shaped opening will do.

This customer started with another foil product (seen on left wall) but wasn't happy with it and decided to finish his install with AtticFoil. Notice the gaps at the bottom and top of the install, as well as around the hips in the roof.

Here is an example of a customer using a hook and turn buckle to secure his wire strapping for the bottom of the false foil-ceiling. The tension is adjustable this way, so you can get the straps/wire nice and taught.

This is one way to secure strapping. You can also use brackets or actual metal straps that fasten to the wood.

Strapping in place and foil installed on top of it. Using straps every 4 ft or so is a good rule of thumb.

In this attic, wooden strips were added to act as strapping for the ceiling pieces.

If you have mounted lights or vents, make sure to cut the foil out around them, as seen in this photo.

In some cases you may have a whole area that's tricky to try to cover while maintaining air flow. In those areas, one option is to just leave the whole area uncovered. Since partial coverage works, this is ok.

Even if you have duct work that is covered with a radiant barrier, if possible, it's best to keep it under the ceiling of foil in a flat top install.

You can see holes in the ceiling down the middle and over on the right side of the photo. Allowing for air movement keeps air temps down and keeps things dry.

A gable wall can (and should) be included in your flat top install. Just like the slopes of the roof, leave a gap at the top and bottom of the wall for air flow.

Another attic with lots of duct work. In these types of attics the traditional staple up or the flat top are the best ways to install the radiant barrier foil.

As you make your way up for this install method, overlap the top piece over the lower piece.

Halfway through a flat top install. You can see the triangular area above the line of foil that will easily vent through the triangle-shaped vent on the gable end. Notice how all the duct work will be below the line of foil, and in a much cooler environment during the hot months.
