As you make your way up for this install method, overlap the top piece over the lower piece.

The fan mounted on the gable wall is open and not obstructed by the foil. The foil should never block/stop airflow.

If you need a custom size width, we can easily cut any of our rolls into the exact size you need.

When you have bracing like this (horizontally across the cavities) you can either put the foil behind it or in front of it. This customer opted to put the foil behind it.

Ductwork housed in the attic is the #1 reason customers choose to staple the foil up.

Regardless of the ventilation you do/do not have at the peak, the foil should stop 3"-6" from the roof peak.

Any flat or gable walls in the attic should also have gaps at the top and bottom to allow air flow on all sides of the AtticFoil.

When you plan to add more insulation to the attic, the Slit Method is useful for keeping the new insulation out of the soffits.

This shows a clean vertical install around a bracing support. If the foil was being installed horizontally in this area, you could just leave a gap in the install below and above this brace.

This is a great example showing the foil installed in both different directions and sizes. It doesn't matter if it takes 5 or 10 pieces, just cover as much as you can while still leaving the proper gaps for ventilation.

Attics that have ducting or lots of wires running across the top of the insulation will generally work better for a staple up method vs an over the insulation one. It's easier to gain access to these items later, if need be.

Light fixtures and fans should have an open area surrounding them; the foil should not cover or obstruct these items. Here you see the cut around the small fan mounted near the peak.

AtticFoil has a cumulative effect, so in this case, the areas covered with foil are benefiting from the foil's reflectivity. The area near the very top that is uncovered it relatively small, so the heat gain in this attic is reduced by at least 75%. That's a noticeable improvement!

This is a clear view of the gap left at the bottom of the install - to allow the soffits to bring air into the main attic space.

If you're planning on adding both foil and insulation to the attic, you should install the foil first since it's much easier to navigate the space before you add insulation. Here is an attic that is halfway done with adding insulation.

Attics used primarily for storage should staple the foil up to get the most coverage and to keep the stored items in a cooler environment during hot months.

This is an example where instead of cutting around the vents on the roof, they just adjusted the placement of the top run of foil so that there was an air gap to allow the vents to pull air from inside the main attic space.

If you accidentally take the foil all the way to the peak - don't worry! You can always go back and cut some slits/gaps into the foil for airflow just like this customer did.

You can use the foil with a whole house fan. Just make sure the foil near by the fan is secured well and it won't be an issue.

This customer installed the foil on his rafters and gable ends and then he blew in insulation on the attic floor. Having a radiant barrier and the proper amount of R-value will make your home the most comfortable and energy efficient!

Another example of a pipe and other protrusions into the roof. The foil is cut around them to give clearance for these items.

This attic is huge! That's a bonus room you see up there too. Rooms that share a space with the attic have to have a radiant barrier over them - no question about it! In this case there was plenty of room to install the foil above it on the rafters. In other cases there isn't that much clearance so the foil is placed flat right on top of the ceiling of the room and stapled to the walls of the room on the attic side. Whichever one you do - just get it covered!

Another bright and pretty install. Notice the gap right between the bottom run and the sloped runs. This is for air flow from the soffits and doesn't hurt the effectiveness of the foil at all.

An example of a foil holder built by one of our customers. He used wood and a pvc pipe to mount the foil and pull it off in sheets as he needed it. This is a great tool for a one-man job.

A simpler version of a foil holder - two clamps, some string/rope and your foil. There's no wrong way to roll out the double-sided foil. If making something like this helps the job go easier - great! If not, do what works for you!
